What is an Expert Advisor?

Should I be using Expert Advisors for my trading or is that something that I should avoid. I have friends who seem to swear by their expert advisors but I still don't even know what an expert advisor is exactly.

 An expert advisor is a script written for a trading program with the idea of robotically executing trades based on a certain trading strategy. The idea is not to have to be in front of the computer and have the money come to you. Sounds too good to be true? - Well, it is.
If there was a consistently profitable EA, everyone would be rich. I have been testing robots ( EAs) for 9 years now and still have not found one that would not crash your account. The main reason being that markets are a living entity and therefore markets dynamics are ever evolving and changing, and a robot, even most often optimized can not accommodate those changes consistently.
